The New Sumo Grande MK II combines the looks of an SUV with the comforts of a family car. It has been specifically designed to satisfy the needs of city customers in the areas of driveability, manoeuvrability and fuel efficiency. In its 13 year long journey Sumo faced many rivals but Tata has kept the vehicle alive with constant upgradation. But in recent years, image of the brand changed a lot. The Sumo Grande MK II sports an all new styling with clean chiselled looks mating with flowing contours.

The tall aggressive stance of the Sumo Grande MK II is complimented by large clear headlamps, and a cutaway air dam in the front. The clean rear look, with the spare wheel tucked under the body, is accentuated by attractive tail lights and a chrome overlay. Tata has borrowed few design cues from the new Xenon for the Sumo Grande MK II. The high bonnet, strong crease and grille gives a V shaped front. The V theme is carried on to the lower part of the bumper. The end result is the sumo grande retains the same masculine feel though in a different form. The real attraction is the side profile of Sumo Grande MK II.

The tapered roofline, dynamic fenders and glass windows are sure attract every by passers. The waterfall fenders merges with the bumpers smoothly. Rear gets a new trendy tail lamp cluster but it looks bland without any distinct bumper. Sumo Grande MK II is built with a longer wheelbase than is usual for Tata, namely 2550 mm in comparison to the current 2400mm. The SUV features three rows of seats and is powered by the new generation 2.2 liter direct injection common rail (DICOR) engine, fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger. The Sumo Grande MK II combines the looks of an SUV with the comforts of a family car. Chassis and suspenison system are carried over from sumo victa.

But this time it has to do more work due to the increased wheelbase and weight. Tata has worked on with the steering to make maneuvering easy in the city. Ride quality is good at lower speeds. Beige interiors are complimented by fire and stain resistant fabric upholstery. Dual HVAC with roof integrated louvers ensures personalised climate adjustment for the occupants in each row. Power steering, power windows, motorised ORVMs, height adjustable driver's seat and a state of the art CD/MP3 music system further add to the comforts and convenience of a family traveling in the Sumo Grande MK II.

Mumbai, December 14, 2009: Tata Motors today announced the launch of Grande MK II, an upgraded version of its premium Sumo offering in the domestic market. The Grande MK II seeks to deliver added value to customers through substantial changes in the exteriors and interiors combined with improvements in drivability, ride and handling and comfort. The exteriors have been accentuated by a new chrome lined grill, side rub rails with chrome inserts and indicators on ORVMs. The interiors have been refreshed to give the vehicle a completely new, contemporary look with a two tone theme complemented by a new faux wood centre console and new fabric upholstery. The changed drive ratio in the Grande MK II gives a boost to low speed performance in city driving conditions. While a modified suspension ensures a comfortable ride, particularly for second and third row occupants, optimised anti-roll bars reduce body roll to a minimum during cornering. The existing low NVH levels have been further refined.

Several ergonomic improvements have been made in the Grande MK II — significant among these are a smaller steering wheel with floating horns, a grab handle on the ‘C’ pillar to aid egress of third row passengers, and new inner door handles. The Grande MK II carries forward the class leading features of the earlier version such as best in class third row seats and lowest turning circle radius of 5.25 m in the category, in addition to having one of the best fuel efficiencies in its class. Dual HVAC with roof integrated louvers, motorised ORVMs, height adjustable driver’s seat and a state of the art CD/MP3 music system are some of the other features Grande MK II continues to sport. The vehicle is powered by the new generation 2.2 litre DICOR engine fitted with a variable geometry turbocharger which delivers maximum power and torque of 120 PS and 250 Nm respectively.

The Grande MK II will be available in 3 variants – top of the line Gx, Ex, and Lx with a seating capacity ranging between 7 and 9 seats in front and side facing configurations. The vehicle will be available in three new colours, Walnut Gold, Platinum Beige and Castle Grey. The Grande MK II is priced in the range of Rs. 6.43 lakhs to Rs. 7.50 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes with a warranty of 2 years or 75,000 kms (whichever is earlier). An additional 2 years’ warranty can be availed through the extended warranty option. Customers would be able to accessorise the Grande MK II with a host of accessories available at dealerships across the country.

A day after the launch of Bajaj Pulsar 135 LS, Honda India has launched the much talked about new 110cc bike - The "CB Twister". Previously it was expected to be launched at the Auto Expo 2010. Though unofficial pictures of CB Twister has already started floating accross the new. Thanks to Motoring Team's eagle eyed photographer, they have clicked 2-3 pictures of CB Twister which gives clear idea of what Honda is up to. The bike looks very sporty and aggressive in terms of looks and styling. It seems the designers had high end super bikes of Honda while designing the CB Twister.

The fuel tank of CB Twister looks like reworked CBF Stunner's tank and also the red shock absorbers at the rear have been carried as it is from Stunner. The headlight has been made very agressive and gels very well with the stylish air scoops. Honda has already promised it won’t compete with splendors and passions but a niche bike in the commuter segment. The CB Twister is going to boast some never seen before features in this segment bike including six spoke mag alloys, front disc brake, stylish exhaust design, split grab rails, open chain and high quality paint. Volkswagen unvieled the all new 2009 Polo at the Geneva Auto Show '09. And it is going to be launched in India at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi. New Polo has some stunning design details, particularly the headlights and tail lights. The exterior surface got a lot of added attention but underneath well, quite a lot got taken away. Engineers were able to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle 7.5 percent over the previous model. The weight savings translates to a dramatic increase in fuel economy. No other car in this class has such a mature and high-end image as the new Polo. Comfort, quality and safety have all taken a considerable leap forward.

Polo was specifically designed to attain the recently established, stricter and more comprehensive, 5-star EuroNCAP rating. The higher structural rigidity of the Polo’s bodyshell contributes to these results. In the footwell area alone, intrusion - related to the car body’s deformation strength in a frontal crash – was lowered by 50 percent! In the case of a side impact, the intrusion value was reduced by 20 percent.

In addition, the European version of the Polo now being presented is equipped with following safety features:

Chevrolet Beat will be another major launch by GM India after the recent launch of Cruze which has been recieved very well by Indian Customers. It is expected to be launched on 4th January, 2010. Chevrolet beat has replaced the Daewoo-sourced Matiz/Spark in GM's lineup. Unlike the Beat concept show at the 2007 New York Auto Show, this vehicle is a five-door instead of a three-door, with the front doors being shortened. The Chevrolet Beat has not been certified for the U.S. because GM doesn't think that U.S. customers will be willing to buy a car smaller than the subcompact Chevrolet Aveo.

The Beat concept was designed and built leveraging GM’s Global Product Development process, created from best practices around the world that integrate design, engineering, powertrain and manufacturing organizations to ensure each vehicle program meets its quality, timing and business targets, yet is responsive to the needs in regional markets.

It was being speculated that Chevrolet India may launch it as "Beat" in India or may revive the "Matiz" brand name. But now it has been officially confirmed that new chevrolet small car will be christened as "Beat", same as the concept's name. President and MD of General Motors India, Karl Slym said- "ChevroletBeat is on schedule and is being tested as of now. Production for sale will start on December 15, 2009. Chevrolet Beat will be displayed at the 2010 Auto Expo in New On 5th January"

Japan's third largest automaker Nissan Motor Co. said it would begin manufacturing its popular compact car model Micra in Chennai, a step seen as challenging Maruti Suzuki's dominance in the small car market. Presently, Micra is rolling out from Nissan's plant in Sunderland, UK. However, Nissan plans to begin production of a new compact fuel-efficient car from 2010 while Micra, which has been completely redesigned for India, will begin rolling out from Nissan's stable in Chennai. Micra will set new standards for small cars when it will be launched at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Delhi. Micra will be sold in five leading competitive countries (LCCs) including India and Thailand. Auto Expo 2010 is coming!! The 10th Auto Expo will be organized jointly by Automotive Component Manufacturers Association (ACMA), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). Auto Expo is India's and Asia's largest automotive show which will be held at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi from 5th January to 11th January, 2010. With the launch of Tata Nano, India has become the global hub for its cost competitive and technologically advanced automotive products. Volkswagen launched its mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle Touareg in 2002. Touareg was the third SUV from the automaker Volkswagen and shares its platform with the Porsche's Cayenne. Now, Volkswagen India is all set to launch Touareg in India this december in a price range of 45-55 lakhs. The Touareg is Volkswagon's radical new sports utility vehicle which represents an attempt to attract a more upscale group of buyers to the Volkswagen brand – buyers who might otherwise be tempted by Mercedes Benz. Accordingly, the company calls the Touareg “one of the most important new vehicle launches in VW history.”

The ad ends with sneak peek of Touareg SUV with big VW logo & slogan "Das Auto" which means “The Car” in german launguage. In my opinion this is one of the best ads in which they have shown all the models avaialble in India. Great move by Voklkwagen guys to improve the brand image of the company.
