Overview Of New Mercedes E-Class

Mercedes unveiled the E-Class for the first time back in the 1977 (W123). Since then the E-Class got several body shapes and different engines and power. The last facelift was unveiled in 2006. Comparing to this one, the 2009 E-Class is exactly as long as the old one, but the wheelbase has been increased by 20mm. With the New E-Class, Mercedes-Benz is presenting the pacemaker when it comes to safety, comfort and environmental compatibility in this market segment. With more than 20 new or further technical developments, this saloon further consolidates the leading position of Mercedes-Benz in the luxury class.

Mercedes Benz India launched the all new E-Class on 23rd September, 2009. It was initially available in only one variant - the top of the line - Avant Garde which is priced at Rs. 47 lakhs (Ex-Showroom New Delhi). But now as expected they are all set to launch the diesel variant of New E-Class in India which is going to be launched on 12th November. New E-Class 350 CDI will be powered by a 2987cc engine which generates 225 Bhp of power and 540 Nm of torque. The company will also introduce BlueEFFICIENCY technology in the diesel E-Class. This technology reduces CO2 emissions and increases fuel efficiency by upto 12%.

Design & Style Of New Mercedes E-Class

New E-Class has a more aggressive look as a result of the design cues taken from the CLS-Class. The glass surfaces gets smaller and the flank of the car suffers from the usual creeping up of sheet metal. Following in the footsteps of the C-Class and more recently the GLK, the new E-Class exterior gets taut body surfacing and angular design elements such as the four diamond shape headlamps up front. It has slightly grown in dimensions compared to the outgoing E-Class, measuring 4868mm in length, 1854mm in width and 1470mm in height with a wheelbase of 2874mm.

Most Prominent change is the shape of the 4 headlights: no more will they be round, they havebeen shaped like squarish teardrops. Codenamed the W212, the saloon gets similar wheel arches to its S-Class sibling, as well as the same rising character line below the door handles to give it a sporty stance. The highly sculpted grille and air intakes on the front look wider than the current model.

Interiors & Comfort Features Of New Mercedes E-Class

The insides are more practical than before, thanks in part to the column-mounted gear shifter which frees up space in the centre console for large cupholders. The best news is that Mercedes has finally agreed to give the E-class fully-powered seats. The rear seats too are even more comfortable, if that can be possible. At night the ‘waterfall’ lighting effect which splits the dashboard and the downlighting on the door switchgear looks simply fantastic.

The Quality of all buttons, switches and even the metal-finish air vents is awesome and have a solidity that tells you it will last forever. Also included in the standard equipment is the Audio 20 CD infotainment system with a twin receiver, CD-player, eight loudspeakers and a Bluetooth interface for a mobile phone. The colour display in the centre of the dashboard can be operated by the driver or front passenger, using the Controller on the centre console. New E-Class petrol is powered by a 3498cc, V6, MPFi petrol engine which develops maximum power of 272 Bhp at 6300 rpm with maximum torque of 355 Nm at 4500 rpm. New E-Class Diesel is powered by a 2987cc engine which develops maximum power of 231 Bhp at 3800 rpm with maximum torque of 540 Nm at 1600 rpm.The engine is 6% more fuel efficient than the indirect injection engine while at the same time delivering more power and torque. The engine is mated to Mercedes’s legendary 7G-Tronic Automatic Transmission with gearshift paddles behind the steering wheel. The diesel engine is going to feature BlueEFFICIENCY technology which will be for the first time a Mercedes is going to feature in Indian Market.

Safety Features Of New Mercedes E-Class

The New E-Class is the first automobile in the world whose headlamps adapt to the traffic situation and respond automatically to avoid dazzling other drivers.
